Sprint Start & Squat Exercises
Step 1
Subject Preparation
Subject preparation: place a reflective marker on the joint centers of the shoulder, elbow and wrist and around the 5th finger of the serving arm; allow the volleyball player adequate time to warm up prior to serving


Volleyball preparation: place a 2 inch square piece of reflective tape in the center of the volleyball on the side facing the camera prior to the serve
Subject preparation: a) clothing sleeveless shirt, shorts, low cut socks and sneakers; b) joint reflective markers – one on the camera side of the athlete at the center of metatarsal-phalangeal, ankle, knee, hip shoulder, tempo-mandibular (or a white sticker over the ear) elbow and wrist joints

Squat Bar Preparation: Place reflective tape on the ends of the squat bar
Step 2
Camera Positioning
Camera position: place the camera perpendicular to and at the mid-point of the volleyball court; it is essential that the volleyball server and the entire flight path of the volleyball are visible in the view finder Position the video camera so that it is perpendicular to the sprint start or squat exercise so that one side of the athlete will be recorded while performing the activity with all 8 joint markers visible in the viewfinder
Step 3
Reflective Meter Stick
Videotape the reflective meter stick supported by a box positioned at the location where the player will be serving from Videotape the reflective meter stick supported by a box positioned at the exact location of execution of the sprint start or squat exercise
Step 4
Video Trials
Videotape volleyball serves of each type; it is essential that the reflective tape on the volleyball can be seen at the time of the serve and during its flight path as a projectile, continue to record serves until the tape is visible throughout the entire flight path Videotape 2 trials of each athlete performing the sprint start or squat exercise
