INTRODUCTION

Each dormitory room except for those located in 942 Main Street, 944 Main Street, 200 Ninth Avenue, 426 Main Street or Clamer Hall is provided with a telephone connected to the campus telephone system. Included in this system are PhoneMail, free unlimited local calling capabilities, long distance calling initiated by using a PIN number issued by STC services, and the ability to dial into the academic Vax system from your PC modem. Call waiting is also an option you may request if you so desire.

The Ursinus College telephone directory is printed each year by the College Communications Department in late September. It is made available to you via campus mail at that time. The directory will become available via the College website sometime during the academic year.

Remember, when dialing another campus telephone, use the 4 digit extension number only. Your call will be connected faster since you are not dialing out of the campus system and then back through the Bell network.

The College has a high speed data port for each student in the residence halls providing full Internet and e-mail service. Contact the computing department for information with your connectivity questions. When using a modem for a computer connection to the academic VAX from a college extension be sure to use only the 4 digit extension for the connection. Using the 409 prefix will first take the call to local Bell office and then return on another line from that office. For residents living in 942, 944, 424, 426, Clamer, and 200 Ninth Avenue proper dialing into the network must be made via a modem using the college modem pool. Further information and details are available form the computing department.

STC SERVICES

During the summer you should have received a mailing from STC Services concerning telephone service and various billing plans available for long distance telephone service. They should have sent you a PIN number that allows you to access long distance on our system. If you did not receive your PIN number, STC will be on campus during registration to help you. It is imperative that you keep this number confidential. Do not write it on your telephone or disclose it to anyone, because this number will be used to charge telephone calls to your account.

STC Services is located at:
Suite 122
1501 N. Cedar Crest Blvd
Allentown, PA 18104

If you prefer to use your credit card to make toll calls, you can reach your provider by dialing their 800 access number. Or, you may use these speed numbers to reach A.T. & T. and MCI. Such calls will generally cost you more since these providers impose a calling card fee (usually around $0.75 per call). There are two ways to place a call on a telephone calling card from a campus telephone. Which method you need to use will depend on what kind of a telephone number your company provides to access their network (a toll free 800 number or a 10xxx number).
Using a calling card with an 800 number:
Dial 9, 1, 800, then the 7 digit remaining portion of the 800 number. For your convenience speed dial numbers have been set for:

A.T.& T. #61893
MCI #61101

Using a calling card with a 10xxx number:
Dial 9, 10xxx, 0, then the area code and the 7 digit number you are calling.
