- Methods for Alleviating Mathematics Anxiety in Middle School Level Students
- The purpose of this study was to find effective methods for alleviating mathematics anxiety in suburban middle school students because little research has been focused on this population. Surveys were administered to 182 math students from 6th to 9th grades and 6 math teachers. The results found that mathematics anxiety was present in less than 42 percent and that some established methods are already in place. Humor and fun activities, teaching test-taking strategies, and in-test assistance were shown to be new methods in addition to more than 20 established techniques. Math educators teaching students suffering from mathematics anxiety and students with mathematics anxiety will find this study especially helpful. It presents implications for teachers, students, parents, administrators, and researchers.
