Publications and Education Links
-
National Academy of Sciences
-
Web site that allows you to download publications dealing with issues in
and describing instructional materials for science and mathematics education
at the college level in addition to K-12, including national standards
in mathematics and science for K-12. Publications that deal with issues
in science and technology also are available.
-
National Institute for Science
Education (NISE)
-
Center that deals with science and mathematics education from K through
graduate level. This site provides links to publication abstracts,
although you will have to send away to buy them.
-
NISE College Level 1
-
Link to one of the subgroups at NISE. Their web site has links to
materials on collaborative learning and assessment.
-
Project Kaleidoscope
-
Organization that deals with SME&T (Science, Mathematics, Engineering,
and Technology) education, especially in primarily undergraduate institutions.
Web site has links to workshops in various areas in addition to publications
on "what works" at other institutions.
-
Wisconsin Center for Education Resource
-
Web site with information and publications on a number of topics relating
to education. Although many projects concentrate on education in
the sciences and mathematics, information on education in some of the humanities
and K-12 is also available.
Assessment
-
National Institute for Science Education (NISE)
-
Field-tested
Learning Assessment Guide (FLAG)
-
Site which allows you to find tested assessment tools and to learn more
about assessment. One section (Matching Goals to CATS) allows you
to enter your goals for the course and then selects tools that will assess
whether these goals are being met. Assessment surveys (CATS) are
available that are being used in other institutions. Many of the
CATS can be modified to your particular needs.
-
Student Assessment
of Learning Gains (SALG)
-
An interesting assessment tool at the FLAG site. This assessment
tool is an on-line questionnaire with five levels of answers for each question.
Questions can be modified for your situation, and the site allows the students
to anonymously enter their answers, although you will be able to find out
whether students have filled out the survey and to ensure that each student
only fills out the survey once. Scoring and statistical analysis
are performed at the site and are provided.
