Have You Considered This?

All faculty in the Biology department maintain active research laboratories and are committed to involving undergraduates in their work.  Research can be carried out for 1 credit (3 hours/week) or 4 credits (12 hours/week).  The department also offers Honors Research opportunities (see the Student Handbook for more details).

If you are interested in performing research with a faculty member it's best to plan ahead.  Approach the faculty member the semester before (the earlier the better) and explain your interest in working with them.  Most faculty would prefer that you begin with 1 credit research before pursuing the more demanding 4 credit research.

There are some opportunities to perform research during the summer as a Summer Fellow, HHMI Fellow, or NIH Fellow (all are paid fellowships with on-campus housing).  There may also be opportunities to present your work at regional or national meetings. Discuss these opportunities with your research advisor.
