Research Interests - Dr. Peter Small
Dr. Small and his students study aquatic ecology.
They have recently focused their work on populations dynamics,
periodicity and annual cycling of diatoms.
Recent students have also investigated the accumulation of heavy metals
by diatoms and the possibility of using this information as an indicator of
local water quality. Research in Dr. Small’s lab includes both field and
laboratory work. Students will have
the opportunity to become proficient at both the light microscope and the
scanning electron microscope, and in the statistical analysis of data.
